CBD and Cancer Pain

Does CBD help people with Cancer Pain?

Cancer pain has different causes and there are different types. Most cancer pain is caused by the tumour pressing on bones, nerves or other organs in the body. Sometimes pain is due to your cancer treatment. For example, some chemotherapy drugs can cause numbness and tingling in your hands and feet. Or they might cause a burning sensation at the spot where you have the drug injection. Radiotherapy can cause skin redness and irritation. Scientific evidence is showing that CBD therapy can help people by reducing their cancer pain.

Research Studies on CBD and Cancer Pain

The Study

Researchers gave 180 people either a THC:CBD mix, THC only, or a placebo, in effort to reduce cancer pain. People receiving the THC:CBD Mix had significantly reduced pain, while people receiving either just THC or the placebo, did not report statistically significant results.

From the Article

"This study shows that THC:CBD extract is efficacious for relief of pain in patients with advanced cancer pain which is not fully relieved by strong opioids."

The Study

Researchers examined the effect of CBD, THC and a 1:1 mix on pain and sleep in Multiple Sclerosis patients. Pain is often a cause of poor sleep, and researchers found that CBD did a good job of reducing pain and inducing sleep.

From the Article

"The research demonstrates a marked improvement in sleep in patients with a wide variety of pain conditions including multiple sclerosis, peripheral neuropathic pain, intractable cancer pain, and rheumatoid arthritis."

The Study

Researchers discuss the recent surge in interest in CBD, largely driven by the discovery of its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and neuroprotective effects. These studies have suggested a wide range of possible therapeutic effects of cannabidiol on several conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cerebral ischemia, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory diseases, nausea and cancer.
